SAN DIEGO - Scientist.com, the life science industry’s leading online marketplace for outsourced research, announced today that it is has officially received SOC 2 certification. Successful completion of the third-party audit will expedite Scientist.com’s expansion into new global pharma and biotech markets by showing potential new clients its willingness to prepare for and comply with the upcoming GDPR requirements.
“In order to be a truly global company, we must comply to national as well as international standards governing privacy and data protection,” said Kevin Lustig, PhD, Scientist.com’s CEO and Co-founder. “Becoming SOC 2 certified means Scientist.com has been deemed trustworthy to host and manage client data. It also brings us one step closer to full preparedness for the upcoming GDPR rollout later this year.”
Service Organization Control (SOC) reports evaluate a service organization’s internal operations as they relate to financial reporting (SOC 1) and data handling (SOC 2). For SOC 2, a third-party consulting firm can test a company’s operations based on five principles: Security, Availability, Processing, Integrity, Confidentiality and Privacy. Scientist.com earned a “clean” report on the Security principle, which only about a quarter of the companies that apply for SOC 2 certification receive.
