Dr. Jeff Jamison presented on the connection between operant conditioning and studying vision in small animals, and how visual acuity tasks can form the basis for various research models, including toxicology and pharmacological testing.
During the live webinar, Dr. Jeff Jamison briefly described current methods and associated technology that are commonly used to measure and study vision in animals. He also discussed the basic concepts of operant conditioning and how this behavioral research technique can be used to train rodents to perform visual tasks and permit accurate measurement of vision threshold or visual acuity.
Specifically, Dr. Jamison provided an introduction to The AcuiSee Vision Chamber, a dedicated operant chamber used to measure vision in rodents.  He touched upon the calibration studies done to demonstrate a range of visual functions, pharmacological intervention, and disease modeling.  Importantly, he shared interesting research applications of the AcuiSee system, and shared with the audience its potential in basic science research, toxicological screening, and pharmacological testing.
