Explore how advanced ultrasound methods are expanding preclinical vascular and brain research. Matthew Lowerison, PhD, Research Scientist in Biomedical Engineering at Duke University, will introduce super-resolution ultrasound localization microscopy (ULM), explain its key requirements and processing steps, and share best practices for ULM imaging with VADA mode on the VisualSonics Vevo F2xc—including sequence design, common pitfalls, and strategies to address them.
Dr. Jean-Luc Gennisson, CNRS Research Director and head of the Methodological Developments and Instrumentation team at BioMaps, will discuss ultrafast ultrasound Doppler for neuropharmacology. Through two examples, he’ll explore how functional ultrasound can track brain vascular activity during pharmacological treatment alongside PET-based metabolic monitoring, and how ultrasound contrast agents may support drug delivery during blood-brain barrier opening and high-resolution vascular mapping with ULM.
This symposium will also include a live imaging session from our Toronto lab. Lead Applications Scientist Izzie Newsome will demonstrate transcranial brain imaging in a large rat including Color, 3D, UFD, NLC, PA (oxy hemo and MW with an injection), and discuss recent advances in neurobiology research using the Vevo F2xc LAZR-X20.
